Titus Alexander has been called a “one man think tank” on family learning, citizenship, education and global issues. He has written numerous publications and created several high impact learning programmes. He is an experienced keynote speaker and workshop leader as well as writer.

Titus is Head of Campaigning at the Novas Scarman Group and works with people to create a more just and sustainable world.

His Learning Power: a contribution to the national skills strategy (2007) challenges the narrow view of skills and shows how practical political education can improve life chances for all, particularly the poorest.  It was praised by Helena Kennedy, Bernard Crick, Francis Maude and others as timely, important and practical. It argues that learning practical politics is as necessary as education for business or law.

Titus gave new meaning to the term ‘family learning’ in Riches Beyond Price: Making the Most of Family Learning (NIACE, 1995) and his influential Demos report Family Learning: foundation of effective education (1997). He was a co-founder of the Parenting Education & Support Forum (now Parenting UK) and wrote Empowering Parents (PESF/NCB, 1997), Parent Information Project (PIP): Next Steps (2005) and the PIP Toolkit (NFPI, 2003). His Supporting Parents Starting School (FPI 2007) facilitator training programme is being rolled out to local authorities in England under the government’s Every Parent Matters policy.

His Citizenship Schools: a practical guide to education for citizenship and personal develop was a best seller for the Campaign for Learning in 2001 and acclaimed by Lord David Putnam, Sir Bernard Crick, Geoff Whitty, Tim Brighouse and other leading educators. He also co-authored the widely used Home-school Policies: A practical guide (1995), edited The Self-Esteem Directory (1997)

Titus Alexander’s work on global issues includes Unravelling Global Apartheid: An overview of world politics (Polity Press/Blackwell, 1996), commissioned by Prof Tony Giddens and endorsed by Secretary of State Clare Short MP and Noam Chomsky. Uniting Humanity is a one year of training programme in advocacy for global citizenship, in association with the Universities of Bourgas (Bulgaria), Gavle (Sweden), Kingston (UK) and a partnership of European NGOs. He founded Charter 99, a campaign for global democracy, and Action for A Global Climate Community.

At Sussex University he developed and taught a course on Learning to Learn. He ran the Popular Planning Project in Clapham Battersea and was principle lecturer in adult education for the ILEA; General Adviser for Community Education in Waltham Forest, and an accredited Ofsted schools inspector.

He tells and writes stories for adults and children, and has a three year old son.
